What is a Bias Proportioning Valve?
Bias Proportioning valves are mostly used
in a car’s hydraulic braking system and help to manage fluid pressure. Over the
years, they have gained a lot of popularity in the automotive industry and are
highly demanded performance upgrades.
Situated between the master cylinder and
other parts of the braking system, these valves are responsible for efficient
working of the braking system regardless of the driving conditions. This
ensures safety and reliability of the vehicle. Proportioning valves are crucial
to high-performance vehicles as they enhance braking performance.
The main purpose of the valve is to manage
the amount of pressure that is applied on the axles and the time it has to be
applied. There are three types of valves available today; master cylinder
mounted, load sensing and combination valve mounted.
If you brake your car while racing and all
wheels lock up, your car can end up skidding to the edge. For stability
purposes, a driver would want the rear wheels of a car to have less strength
than the front wheels to stay in control while braking. This will allow the
driver to take sharp cuts while driving.

front and rear wheels so that when you brake, the front wheels lock up while

Fitting Track Rod Ends
If you are driving in a straight line, and you feel that you constantly need to adjust the position of your steering to keep your car in a straight line, then it is time to change your track rod ends as they are worn out. Track rod ends are installed on the ends of your car’s steering rack, and ensure proper handling when in a proper working condition.
Worn out or damaged track rod ends can cause mishandling and can result in loss of human life and property. You can do track rod end replacement in your home if you have the right tools and some basic car repair knowledge.
You will need the following:
• New track rod ends
• Jack and Stand
• Lug Wrench
• Track rod puller tool
• Wrenches for undoing bolts (depending upon car make)
Once you have all the things you need, follow the following steps to perform track rod end replacement on your car.
1. Loosen the lug nuts and Jack up the car on a stand.
2. Remove the wheel and inspect the track rod ends for play and movement. They are the ones present at the end of your steering rack.
3. Use a marker to mark the spot on the track rod where the current ends are installed, since we want to install the new ones on the same location to avoid alignment issues.
4. Remove the cotter pin and the securing nut on the track rod end.
5. Now use the track rod-pulling tool on the steering rack aim, with the puller bolt centered and aligned with the stud on the track rod end.
6. Now loosen the sleeve bolt and start unscrewing the track rod end from the steering rack arm.
7. Now screw the new track rod end on the sleeve and screw it till the mark you had previously made on the rack end. This ensures that the wheel alignment remains the same.
8. Tighten the sleeve bolt, fix the stud back into its place, and tighten the securing nut.
9. Now you need to insert the cotter pin back into its hole. If it is not aligning properly, tighten the track rod end just a little bit to get the holes aligned, do not loosen it.
10. Put the tyre back on and tighten all the nuts and bolts.
11. Lower the car off the jack.
Congratulations! You have performed a track rod end replacement all by yourself. The new track rod ends will continue to serve you for years to come.

How to Fit Top Mounts on Your Own
Top mounts are car suspension components that secure the struts or the shock absorber assembly of the car and prevent them from abnormal movements. If the top mounts of the car are damaged or worn out, this will result in abnormal suspension movement that can cause driving problems as well as unwanted noises. The top mounts are located above the shock absorbers or coilovers, and require periodic maintenance. If you have the right set of tools, you can fit top mounts by yourself.
To fit top mounts by yourself, you will need the following:
• New top mounts and bearings
• 22 mm or 24 mm socket wrench (depends upon car make and model)
• 18 mm wrench for undoing securing bolts
• Spring compressor
• Lug wrench
• Jack and stand
Now that you have everything you need, follow these simple steps and you will be done in no time.
1. Loosen the lug nuts and jack up the car on the stand.
2. Remove the wheel to get access to the lower bolts.
3. There will be two 18 mm bolts that secure the shock absorber/coilover to the wheel hub, undo them, and disconnect the lower portion of the shock absorber/coilover.
4. Open the hood, and locate the top mount securing bolts. These are usually of 22 mm or 24 mm.
5. Undo these screws using the wrench, now your shock absorber should come out easily.
6. If using a shock absorber and not a coil over, use a spring compressor to compress the spring, and then undo the main bolt that secures the top mounts and bearing.
7. Once undone, remove the old top mount and bearing, and install new ones in their place.
8. Tighten the securing bolt, and insert the shock absorber back into its slot into the car body.
9. First, tighten the top bolt in the hood to hold the shock absorber in place.
10. Now, tighten the lower 18 mm bolts while pulling the shock absorber towards you, this will make sure that the wheel alignment stays proper and there are no camber problems.
11. Tighten all the bolts and apply grease where necessary.
12. Put the wheel back on, and lower the car back on to the ground. Repeat for the other side.
Congratulations! You have just succeeded in fitting top mounts by yourself. Enjoy your improved ride.
